Aachen Council meeting
May 15 @ 3:00 pm - May 17 @ 1:30 pm CEST
IBF Council meeting and Balint Conference 15-17/May 2020.
DEAR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES,
The German Balint Society (Deutsche Balint Gesellschaft – DBG) feels honoured to host the IBF Council Meeting in spring 2020. Aachen is a historical town with a Roman history and the place where Charlemagne was crowned in 800 A.D. The beautiful Aachen cathedral became the first building in Germany recognised as UNESCO world heritage in 1978. Since 1950 the International Charlemagne Prize is awarded annually for the most valuable contribution to European understanding. Today Aachen also is well known as a student city with more than 50.000 international students in a city with 250,000 inhabitants. The RWTH is assigned as an university of excellence.
For 23 years the DBG has organised one of its annual Balint conferences in Aachen. The conference venue is a student meeting place located in the old centre of Aachen and surrounded by coffeehouses and restaurants.
For those who want to see some of the famous places in the old centre, we offer a guided walking tour on Friday evening (without fee). After sightseeing we invite all participants and accompanying persons for a social evening with a buffet.
As usual for all IBF conferences the various Balint groups will be conducted in English by experienced international group leaders. As a second track we will offer Balint groups, leadership training and a supervision group in German. On Friday, after the opening of the conference, Dr. Phillip Herzog will give a talk „Patience and Politics – Establishing Balint Work in Medical Training in Germany“.
The IBF Council Meeting is scheduled for Saturday after lunch from 1.30 to 3.30 p.m. (during this meeting the German speaking Balint groups will have another group session). That way all international Balint groups will have four Balint sessions during the conference and the German speaking Balint groups will have five Balint sessions. On Sunday before the closing of the conference we invite all conference participants to a large/ fishbowl group for a mutual Balint case.
As all IBF Balint meetings should provide time for professional/personal exchange and to meet each other, we will have an excursion on Saturday afternoon, starting at 3.30 p.m. Aachen is located close to the low mountain range „Eifel“. Directly after the Council Meeting, buses will take us to the Eifel and to Lake Rursee. We will have a boat trip during which coffee and cake will be served. Then the buses will drop us at the old Eifel village of Monschau, where we will do a short round walk, followed by a nice three course dinner at Hotel Horchem. Our buses will drop us back at the conference venue at 11 p.m.
Please note that the excursion is not included in the conference fee and needs an additional booking. All accompanying persons are welcome to join the excursion but need a booking in advance, too. The total fee per person for the excursion is 55,00 €. Dinner is included, drinks are not included.
For the conference application and booking of the excursion, please use the PDF-form on the IBF- or DBG-website. The Deadline for application is 15th April 2020.
It helps our administration if you apply as soon as possible.
We are looking forward to welcome you soon in Aachen
